homemade face mask recipe
When I first got interested in natural skincare and started exploring ideas for products for the brand, the first thing that I did was to order some ingredients from online and start playing in my kitchen.
I had the most fun few weeks, melting butters and mixing different oils together. I even dabbled in creating my own lipsticks too which was incredibly satisfying to see swirls of different colour in pots...despite my small mishap of dying half my kitchen tools bright red (lesson learned)!
Even though the Pennies and Feathers skincare is now made offsite at an artisan manufacturer, I still love to play chemist at home and believe that you can create some wonderful concoctions that really do wonders for the skin, and work in harmony with our products too. One particular favourite of mine is a mask, and it really is super easy to make. In fact, you most likely will have the needed ingredients already at home.
This is a recipe that I have used many times on myself and I can safely say that my skin adores it and feels so incredibly smooth and soft afterwards. Here is what you will need:
Small Pot/ 3 Tablespoons of Plain Natural Yoghurt
1 Teaspoon of Honey
A few squeezes of juice from a lemon
4 drops of Rose and Lavender Beauty Oil
All you need to do is mix all of the above ingredients into a bowl and then pop it into the fridge for at least 10-15 minutes, or overnight if you wanted to pop this on in the morning.
Apply the mixture with a makeup brush, or your fingers to your face, of course avoiding your eyes, and leave on for around 10-20 minutes or until the mixture has dried out and feels a little tight.
Then, use your muslin cloth or flannel to rinse the mask off and gently pat your face dry.
The incredible thing about this simple mask is that the natural yoghurt contains lactic acid, which very gently helps to exfoliate your skin. It is a very light, natural way to achieve smoother, brighter skin without the irritation that stronger acids may sometimes cause in sensitive skin. The lemon juice and the honey are both antibacterial and the honey especially is very hydrating to the skin.
The addition of the Rose and Lavender Beauty Oil means that it is gentle on your face, filled with antioxidants and also gives a subtle relaxing scent to the mask. Please do let me know if you give this a try yourself and if you love it just as much as I do.
